Religious  context 

Main faith groups:

The main ethnic group, the Bamar, make up approximately two-thirds of the population, 79% of whom are Buddhist, 6.2% Christian, 4.3% Muslim, 0.5% Hindu, 0.8% following tribal religions and 0.2% other. Christianity is prominent in Kachin, Kayah and Chin State while Islam religions significant in Kayin State, Tanintharyi region and Mon State. In reverse, Buddhism is distributed across the Regions and some States. 


Myanmar is a multi-religious country with practicing Buddist, Christian, Muslim, and Hindu citizens. There is no official state religion, but the government shows preference for Theravada Buddhism, the majority religion.
