East and South Africa Region

In 2022, the Eastern and Southern Africa region (ESAR) grappled with a series of crises. The Horn of Africa drought, a result of extreme climate conditions, impacted 36.3 million people, including 20.2 million children, pushing countries in the area to the edge of famine. The region experienced relentless and increasingly severe droughts, floods, and cyclones, leading to a surge in humanitarian needs. Additionally, there were widespread outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, Ebola, measles, polio, and yellow fever in multiple countries, further straining public healthcare systems. Political instability persisted in various parts of the region, marked by conflict zones, civil unrest, and activities of Non-State Armed Groups. These cascading crises severely hindered progress, particularly affecting the 265 million children in the region who were already grappling with multidimensional poverty.

In an attempt to mitigate on the challenges faced in both ESAR and WCAR, the Faith and Positive change for children, families and communities was conceived in 2018. The project looks across sectors including health, development, protection, and empowerment of children, especially focusing on the most marginalized, across the life-cycle.
