Ethiopia

Over 98% of the population belongs to one of the four major faith groups:

 

  • Orthodox Christian (43.5%)

  • Islam (33.9%)

  • Protestant/evangelical faith group (18.6%)

  • Catholic (3%)

 

Both Orthodox Christian and Islamic communities are the focus of UNICEF’s partnership.As FGM/C is widely practiced in Afar and Somali regions, partnering with FBOs affiliated with Islamic religion is prioritized in Afar and Somali while working with FBOs affiliated with Christian religion is prioritized in Amhara and SNNP regions.
